I cannot praise Mr. Ishaque enough for his medical skills and caring manner. He is supported by an excellent team particularly his anaesthetist Dr. DaSilva.

In the summer 2013 I was diagnosed with stenosis and spondylolisthesis with severe canal compromise. This meant no more tennis, skiing, travelling and generally walking with pain.

My operation was in October 2013. It was quite a long one of 8 and a half hours rebuilding half my back, but within 3 weeks I was walking up and down my service road on a daily basis for 45 minutes at a time! Physiotherapy started in December; in 5 months I was swimming and taking long haul flights.

One year on I would swim for an hour or walk for over an hour daily.

This year I have played tennis (serving over arm) with friends and enjoyed a fantastic ski holiday with the family. I believe I skied with more confidence and speed than prior my operation!

I have caught up with the garden although I try to remember not to overdo it and carrying less weight in the bags and ask my husband to do the serious digging. I have also joined a volunteer group for clearing local footpaths for a couple of hours a fortnight. I use garden shears to cut the hedgerows from ground level to my height.

I advise any patients to listen and obey the exercises set by the physio and ask for extra challenging ones. Obviously any tasks or rules set by Mr. Ishaque and his colleagues are paramount.

I am so grateful to Mr. Ishaque for his knowledge and operational skills but also for his thoughtfulness and patience in explaining the procedures and after care.

Thank you once more Mr. Ishaque for “mending” my back to enjoy my retirement to the full.
