Heidi Hill

The words ‘Thank you’ do not seem enough. I will be forever grateful to Mr Ishaque, Dr Da Silva and Linda for their part in giving me back my life.

Following years of pain, misdiagnosis and psychological battering, a friend referred me to Mr Ishaque. (Thank you, Louise!)

Personable, kind, honest and clearly exceptionally knowledgeable, Mr Ishaque tried all options to avoid major surgery. We both knew we had exhausted all options and the decision to commit to major spinal surgery was tough, yet well thought through.

It is now 2 years ago since I had my spinal fusion at L5 S1, with titanium ‘rugby posts’ and a graft made from my arthritic facet joints to support my lower back. There’s no doubt in my mind that surgery is tough and recovery never as quick as your would like, but it was well worth the pain and recuperation. I know that I have to take care of my back - pilates feels the best form of exercise - but I feel like a new person!

The best thing worth remembering is that the journey back to enjoying life is a good one. I appreciate so much more than I did previously. I have a supportive husband and two treasured daughters who were 6 and 3 when I had surgery. I can now walk them to and from school, take them to the playground and enjoy watching them grow up. Even my husband is released (at times!) from the cooking and washing up. I am able to concentrate at work. I even have a dog, albeit a small terrier that I am taking to training and walking (that was my goal!).

Thank you for all you have done for me and for your untiring support along the way.
