Alfie Ratcliffe

I am a 28 year old Police officer who injured my back around 3 years ago (silly mistake when putting down a door enforcer). I lived with the pain for 3 years and kept it to myself, however in early 2014 the issues became worse to the point I could hardly walk, after having an MRI (on the NHS) I was diagnosed with a slipped disc, given pain killers and signed off work simply to be told I would be referred for physiotherapy which would take weeks.

I spoke to my private healthcare providers and was advised  to book an appointment with a Consultant at BMI The Priory Hospital. I was fortunate enough to be assigned to Mr Ishaque.

I am not the sort of person who admits to having illnesses and do not like going to see doctors, however within moments of meeting Mr Ishaque I was amazed by his efficiency, within minutes I had an ‘actual’ examination with a doctor, who I could see knew exactly what he was talking about and knew exactly what needed to be done.
After this first appointment he acquired my MRI scan from the NHS, he immediately set about further investigating the problem, which resulted in him correcting the NHS diagnosis!

This showed I had a badly slipped disc, a twisted spine and another disc was slipping (which I actually managed to slip further). My pain was agonising and I assumed I was to be committed to an operation. Mr Ishaque managed to fix the problem without any surgery, simply by using a number of steroid injections around the discs.

I am now pain free, I feel better than I have for the past few years, which is all thanks to Mr Ishaque.

I cannot thank him enough for what he has done, and I cannot recommend him highly enough (He was even there for me at 2am on a Saturday morning to give me advice on pain management!!!!)

Setting new standards in spinal treatment

Professional Memberships

Mr Ishaque is highly experienced and widely recognised as a leading Consultant Spinal Surgeon. He is one of the few surgeons to have been awarded both the British Orthopaedic Association's Robert Jones Gold Medal and a Hunterian Professorship from The Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is one of the youngest surgeons to have achieved this, having been awarded both honours, before the age of 40.
